Nigeria Vision 2020

THE FORGOTTEN VISION...
“By 2020 Nigeria will be one of the 20 largest economies in the world, able to consolidate its leadership role in Africa and establish itself as a significant player in the global economic and political arena."

Nigeria which is the biggest economy in the West African sub region and now called the biggest economy in Africa (though some don't agree) whose economic potential is well recognized with numerous resource endowment, strategic coastal location with potential for strong growth.

Yet! Nigeria has realized very little of all its potential, both natural and artificial. But with vision of global participation, becoming a sustained and rapidly growing economy which will be ranked amongst the N11 countries, Vision 20, 2020 was conceived.

Late Ya'Adua administration had declared the intention to pursue the vision of placing Nigeria among the 20 largest economies in the world by 2020, a vision which was reechoed and established by the GEJ administration was committed to the attainment of the vision

In achieving this great vision and ensuring involvement of stakeholders across all sector, special interest groups were formed and tasked with the responsibility of developing vision documents focusing on: Women, People with Disabilities, Media, Labour and Youth

Vision 2020 Steering Committees:
National Council on Vision 2020; President as the Chairman as the apex, providing leadership and direction of the Vision.

National Steering Committee; with about 70 members, drawn from the public and private sector...

...the committee was saddled with responsibility of developing the Vision 2020, working with MDA's, every stake holder, LGA's and all.

Then,The National Technical Working Group; with 25 members who are experts in specified field and area drawn from both public and private...

...sectors. Whose duty is to use their wealth of knowledge, expertise and passion for the area giving necessary data, adequate research and background check needed by the working groups.

While, The Stakeholder Development Committee; are representative of State Governments,...

...Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and other key institutions.

The Economic Management Team; served as Think-Tank to drive the visioning process.

The Vision document was designed into three(3) developmental stages namely;
Stage1: Building a Solid Foundation For V2020 from 2008-2010

Stage2: Achieving The Millennium Development Goals Enroute to V2020 from 2011-2015

Stage3: Becoming a Top 20 Economy By 2020 from 2015-2020

The three stages were tagged: Lift off, Escaping Gravity and Cruising the Orbit. With Interest in building Strong Institution,Entrenching rule of law, Adequate Security, Anti Corruption, Infrastructural Development, Macro Economy, Health, Education and Real Sector

Vision 20,2020 has been throw to the gutters of several failed promise and vision. God bless Nigeria. I believe that Nigeria will be Great one day. Amen
