One-third of all people who have died from the coronavirus in the U.S. are nursing home residents or workers, according to a New York Times database.

The data shows how nursing home populations are at a high risk of dying from the coronavirus. Covid-19, the disease caused by the virus, is known to be particularly lethal to older adults with underlying health conditions. nyti.ms/3cgYG5W
The coronavirus so far has infected more than 143,000 at some 7,500 facilities, according to our database. Given the wide variability in the information available, the totals almost certainly represent an undercount of the true toll. nyti.ms/3cgYG5W
Based on our analysis, some 800 of the 3,100 counties in the U.S. have at least one coronavirus case related to a long-term care facility.
