The many things I do not miss about being a nurse practitioner
Seeing patients with multiple mental problems who are mistaking these for physical problems
Patients who find out thier exam & tests are normal and are actually angry about that
Patients who are legit sick and think somehow it's your fault & are mad you can't fix it quick
Drinking & drugging injuries and hangovers masquarading as "stomach flu" I mean I can smell the booze
You have no idea how many perverts of both sexes and any age who come into clinic to feed the perversion. How many times have I been their victim? Never. Again.
Parents who's children run around & behave like savages. "I'm leaving the room & I'll be back when you have control of your kid"
Taking sexual histories in a college town on young adults & teens coming in for STD testing. This alone has given me PTSD.
Working with lazy slackers who drag thier feet so the other NP, PA or MD's end up being worked to death seeing double or more the number of patients
Nurses who jam all the patients into your schedule cuz they know you'll get them seen so they can get out on time while you'll sit there for hours finishing charts
Healthcare system that has pushed the clerical work on the provider so we can see fewer patients then smile & say "well you can take your computer home to finish your notes"
Taking histories on sick kids and getting nothing from mom but *shrug* "I don't know, he/she's in daycare all day"
Office emails saying "so and so is no longer employed at xyz clinic" knowing that's code for "they were fired" and wondering when that email will be going out about you.
Having many year long co-workers who you respected, fired suddenly having never once seen them make a mistake or be incompetent. Your clearly struggling & incompetent colleagues are there everyday & you fear for thier patients.
