folks should really read all the exhibits from Rick Bright's whistleblower complaint.

Peter Navarro –– quoted in this story pretending Prestige Ameritech was the problem –– wrote multiple memos in Jan/Feb about the urgent need to onshore & ramp up domestic N95 mask production.
I mean, look at this 2/14 memo.

"These masks are the frontline defense for our health care professionals & we can't waste time."
Mike Bowen had been emailing since *mid-January* making clear Prestige Ameritech was the only major fully-domestic producer of N95 masks.

he was desperately trying to help the gov't, and not for his own financial benefit, but out of a sense of duty to the country.
by late Feb., Bowen had to resort to making his plea to help the WH via press.

he was getting millions of requests from everyone *but* the US gov't. he only sold domestically, but people were buying his masks & shipping them overseas.

so for *months*, Bowen tried to help solve America's N95 shortage, but the admin inexplicably ignored him.

by late March, Jared & his volunteer squad were finally on it. they gave a slew of no-bid contracts to shady companies for masks at 10X the cost Bowen would've charged.
in January, Trump could've invoked the DPA & solved the N95 shortage at low cost.

instead, frontline heroes were pointlessly put in harm's way for months –– and by April, we were reading countless stories like this:
there were many other fascinating exhibits in Rick Bright's complaint.

here's a FEBRUARY memo from Peter Navarro about the urgency of ramping up domestic production of remdesivir.

3 months later, the WH is in chaos trying to manage that shortage:

here's Bright & Navarro discussing the swab shortage in mid-March...

Bright asks why we rely on imports instead of "US producers such as Puritan"

5 weeks later, Trump finally turns to Puritan... and starts talking about how swabs are "so easy to get"
here's a chain from 1/27 where Dr. Bright is in disbelief that the White House had not even *requested* samples of the novel coronavirus from either China or the WHO.
anyways, here are all the exhibits from the Bright complaint for anyone who wants to check them out.

they're quite illuminating.
