– released a toxic policy plan that was featured in many D ads

– ran the NRSC's finances into the ground

– invested in CO & WA, both of which Ds won by ~15 points

– with fundamentals set for a red wave, failed to flip a single seat

since people keep insinuating the Taliban were behind (or invited) today's attack – some broader context:

so, ISIS-K / ISKP (IS Khorasan Province) claimed responsibility & there's no reason to doubt this – it aligns with *all* their interests.

as for the Taliban, well... so for starters, the Taliban & ISIS are enemies. conflating them, or their prevailing interests, makes no sense.

they've been at war – under Trump, the US military literally aided Taliban offensives against ISIS:

it's called Voter Protection Preclearance (short 🧵 on VPP coming!)

1) Trump's abrupt & indefensible concessions to Turkey seem to indicate Erdogan has some sort of leverage over him.

Speculation has centered on Trump's business ties, but I think Erdogan's leverage is more likely related to information about the Khashoggi assassination... 2) After the Khashoggi hit inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey essentially ran a long/deliberate information warfare campaign.

They had all the evidence from the get-go, but they strategically released nuggets to keep driving daily news & repeatedly expose Saudi lies.

stumbled upon this piece by the legendary Richard Rovere chronicling the Goldwater campaign in 1964... the extent to which it reads like a story about Trump is WILD.

THREAD… we can start with Rovere musing that Goldwater rallies were better defined by a mood than politics – a mood of “joyful defiance”...

...and that the rallies essentially served to allow “great numbers of unapologetic white supremacists to hold great carnivals of white supremacy.”

I’m glad we are all denouncing anti-Semitism. I have a few other instances I’d like to nominate for bipartisan condemnation... In 2013, Donald Trump launched an anti-Semitic effort to essentially dox Jon Stewart as a Jew, which he seemed to viewed as an inherent flaw.

Trump taunted, “why did he change his name from Jonathan Leibowitz? He should be proud of his heritage!”
