Is there an explanation as to why it took two months of this outbreak and an outbreak that already killed 21,000 New Yorkers, to suddenly do this to children? What’s the scientific theory behind this sudden appearance?
As of the update from today Sat 5/9/20, 12 of the 21,271 Corona deaths in NY are under the age of 20. No not 12 percent. It’s 12 as in 12 cases. If policy is guided only by data, this should matter in terms of modified openings of schools. But alas: #SunkenCostFallacy.
I am not suggesting that the new reported issue in children should be ignored. But if it is Corona-related, why did it take 2 months to pop out? Why are Covid deaths in NY for under the age 20 group not way higher than 12 out of 22,271? I am asking because I am open to answers.
In 2017, there were 1,793 deaths in NY in under age 20. That’s 149 deaths per month and almost 300 in two months. Two months of Coronavirus in NY took the life of 12 people under the age of 20. (Note that deaths WITH Corona is counted as deaths OF Corona per CDC rules.)
155,191 died in NY in 2017.

1,793 deaths were under age of 20.

That’s 1.15% of deaths.

*

21,271 died with Covid in NY.

12 are under the age of 20.

That’s 0.056% of deaths.

If the % Covid deaths in children were the same as year 2017 deaths, there would be now 244 deaths.
