I’ve been on hiring teams at big companies like Eventbrite and small startups as well. I’ve started doing resume reviews as much as I can to try to give back. Here’s a thread of the feedback that I give to almost all of the resumes I review.
1. Ask for as much help as you can editing.

Have as many friends as you can check your resume for spelling, formatting or issues with grammar.

I cannot tell you how many resumes I review that have a few errors that stick out immediately. Recruiters notice this.
2. Sell yourself more in your resume.

Don’t be shy about your accomplishments. I have a paragraph in bold for every job I’ve had that lists one impressive achievement I had on that job.
3. Always send as a PDF.

A PDF will ensure that your formatting is exactly how you want it to the person looking at it. Bonus: A PDF ensures that nobody can see the history of your word doc.
4. Save your resume as ${yourFullName}_Resume.pdf

When a recruiter or dev is searching through their computer for your resume, they need to be able to find it easily and they can’t do that if it’s titled “Resume.pdf” like every other 500 resumes they have.
5. Add a little personality.

The best resumes are the ones that you remember.
If you’d like me to review your resume, shoot me a DM and I’ll take a look.
I received a huge number of resumes to review so please be patient with me. I’m responding to each one with a screen recording video with my notes and suggestions so it takes a bit to get through them.
