My top book recommendations to help you become a senior engineer 👇
Atomic Habits by James Clear.
I love this book because it helped me understand that I don’t have to make a huge life change to make a new habit stick. I started writing and coding in my spare time by just starting small.

Unsure how to prepare for a coding interview? 👇
Interview before you are ready. At one company, you might be expected to invert a binary tree. At another, you might be given a quick coding take-home with concepts you already know. You don't know what you don't know yet. Find your weak spots.

The questions you should be asking early on in the interview process:
1. What does a typical day for an engineer look like at the company? 2. What type of opportunities does the company provide for learning and development?
3. What are the expectations for this role in the first 30/60/90 days? 4. Can you tell me about the team I’ll be working on? 5. What makes you excited about the company? 6. What’s the company culture like? 7. What are the next steps in the process?

I was able to launch my recent SaaS project quickly with these awesome projects. 🧵
I didn’t spend time on authentication or setting up payments. I used Gravity by @kylegawley to save weeks/months.
Lessons that my 30 year old self would tell my 20 year old self.
I think about this a lot because I was really lost in my 20s.
A thread.
1. 30 is not old.
Stop worrying about being in your 30s because odds are that life will be 100x better. You will have met your partner. You will have your career figured out.
At the bare minimum, the fear of being 30 will be over because you’ll be in your 30s

I’ve reviewed thousands of resumes in my career. Here are the biggest mistakes I see made over and over. 🧵
Stop listing 500 different technologies in your skills section. Companies know you don’t know 500 different technologies that well.
And it just makes hiring managers eyes glaze over. Focus on the skills that are relevant to the job.

Quick and easy explanation of 'this' in JavaScript. 🧵
Imagine you're out walking your dog. Or cat. Either way.
Later, you say to your friend:
I was out walking my dog earlier. She chased a squirrel, knocked me over and then ate the UPS driver's shoe all in 30 minutes!

Only have a limited amount of time to prep for an interview? 🧵
30 minutes? Have a friend ask you a few questions you might get asked. Why THAT company? What are your strengths? Why are you looking for a new job?

Tips on learning how to code. 🧵
Forget the fundamentals - at first. The fundamentals likely won’t make sense right away. Don’t waste time trying to understand loops and variables.
Work on building projects first. I wasted months trying to understand the fundamentals without applying them.
When I was a junior dev, debugging was really hard for me to do well. But once you understand it, it’ll help you in coding and in the technical interviews.
Quick ways to debug something quickly in JavaScript 🧵
Be able to recreate the bug. If you can reliably recreate the bug, you can figure out where it’s coming from. Start searching through your code for the likeliest suspect.

Why start your own tech blog? 🧵
Teaching others through blog posts and tutorials helps you learn. You will understand a concept better if you teach it to someone else.

How to go about creating a portfolio if you’re stuck in tutorial hell. Thread
Highly requested thread so I had to do it. Haha. So, tutorials are awesome. But you’ll learn faster if you just build a project. But... that’s easier said than done.

Thread on how I selected my coding bootcamp. 🧵
Ok so many people have messaged me asking what bootcamp I attended and how I chose it that I felt I had to address this.
I attended Dev Bootcamp and it’s now closed :/ It was an incredible experience while it lasted.

Want to become a better engineer and make yourself invaluable to your company? Thread.
Work like you have the title you aspire to get. When I wanted to be a senior developer, I started taking on the duties of a senior dev. I said yes to tasks before I was ready.
Kind of like 'Dress for the job you want' but instead you start applying that to how you work.
How to improve your resume quickly in ANY (really!) amount of time. 🧵
