Interesting quotation from Mike Madrid, one of the Republicans responsible for the devastating anti-Trump ad, “Mourning in America":

"Angering Democrats and taunting them to elicit predictable attacks is what holds the Republican base together."

In my personal life, I've felt that Republicans do try to taunt me. I try not to take the bait.

I've also thought the advice, "Democrats should fight like Republicans" was destructive, makes Democrats look bad, and adds fuel to the fire.

This seems to confirm that⤵️

That quotation reminds me of this fundraising letter Trump sent to his supporters⤵️

Trump tells his supporters that we hate them.
He tells his supporters that when we attack him, we are attacking them.

He makes the fight between us and the supporters.

I'm struggling with this idea.

What if we consider that many of Trump's base are victims. They're manipulated and brainwashed.

Trump and others are the evil leaders who are manipulating and brainwashing them. But the manipulated are victims.

In that case, we'd be careful not to attack the victims.

What I understand from @madrid_mike's quotation is this: If it was clear to Trump's base that we are not attacking them, there would be no more glue holding his base together.

It's a cult based on a war against liberals.
I'm not saying socially interact, I'm saying make sure we don't attack them.

When Republicans in my personal life needle me, I try to go against the stereotype they have of people like me.

(I'm sort of thinking aloud here. I don't have this worked out.)
I don't think we should try to reach them, or help them see the light, or anything like that.

Just don't attack.

I'm also not talking about Twitter, which is not real life.

I'm talking about the people we know personally.
What I get from the highlighted sentence (if it is accurate) is that without attacks from us, Trump will have a harder time holding his base together and keeping them riled.

This will make it harder for him to turn them out to vote.
