This time last year, I was in a much worse lockdown. I had to stay completely still for two weeks following reconstructive surgery, to allow a graft to take. By comparison, I feel like a free man this year. I'm very grateful to be out of it.
As always, the Three Rules got me through it. In times of trouble, I use them almost as an incantation. I don't know if this will work for everyone, but for me, it seems to exert remarkable power.
Thanks everyone for your kind words.
I read, among others, a beautiful novel that could almost have been written for people in lockdown: A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. It's about house arrest, reconciliation, making the best of your situation, but also hope. It's funny and wise.
