When I heard through the grapevine that @kfayemiGov had ordered an investigation into @JOluwadero’s open letter on the circumstances of his mother's avoidable death at EKSUTH, I was excited.

Little did I know, as they say, that “it will end in tears”.

For those who missed Oluwadero’s letter (saharareporters.com/2020/05/02/ope…), let me summarise d content here: His mum arrived at EKSUTH on April 21 as a diabetic emergency but healthcare workers, fearing it could be a COVID-19 case, didn’t near her since they didn’t readily have PPE.
2/12
She was left in the car outside the A&E for a period that was initially thought to be 50minutes but eventually confirmed (thecable.ng/still-on-eksut…) to be at least 73minutes.

When finally admitted, the oxygen cylinder that was brought lasted no more than two minutes.
3/12
At some point, one of the deceased’s sons filmed her gasping for breath — with no oxygen, of course. Ten minutes later, she died.

I watched that brief video and I wouldn’t wish for my enemy to view a similar footage of their loved ones.

I am normally interested in matters like this but this was of added interest because a day before Oluwadero’s letter, I’d escalated the case of a 26-year-old woman who lost her 9-month-old foetus to PPE-occasioned delay in surgery at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti

and wasn’t receiving the best post-CS care after exhibiting symptoms hospital staff thought could be COVID-19-related.

The investigation ordered by the Governor into that case claimed the alarm was false.

I was therefore waiting for the outcome of this latest probe.

Again, the conclusion of the investigation ordered by the Governor (web.thecable.ng/re-open-letter…) was that there was no shortage of PPE or oxygen at EKSUTH and there was no delay in attending to the patient.
7/12
This is despite the incontrovertible evidence, including a video, referenced by Oluwadero.

How can we begin to seriously address our healthcare problems, or generally progress as a country, if such 1st-grade exec investigation ends up in this manner of blatant self-denial?
8/12
It’s really worrying the extent to which officialdom is being deployed into mortifying this thing called ‘investigation’.

Take the PPE for example; the CMD of a federal hospital recently went on air to say the hospital had an abundance of PPE.
9/12
Meanwhile, this is a hospital where patients are not only told to buy PPE, even the doctors often contribute their own money to buy them for patients!

A public appeal to @kfayemi: The people you trusted with that investigation have misled you by a mile.
10/12
Two shoddy investigations in succession — and probably many more to come — will whittle down your standing among the masses.
11/12
It would have been nice if you completely ignored Oluwadero’s open letter rather than come public with an investigation that has simply turned the truth on its head.

Even the late Mrs. Oluwadero must be turning in her grave!
