"Same meeting, different experience" criticism for @jasbuddy. You can be in the same meeting with others but have an entirely different experience based on what direction the arrows are flying. Those watching the arrows flying are not experiencing the 'hits.'

I've had to learn as a leader, especially when my role is mediation, to pay careful attention to shots fired and make sure the person on receiving end isn't bleeding out. I learned the hard way from bleeding out a couple of times, but watching other say, 'good meeting!'

A wise leader will protect people from long term damage, and also, on the occasion she or he is the focus of attack, will name it to the room.
