I’m not listening to the argument this AM, but I’ve never really understood *why* the House needs a legislative basis to issue a subpoena.
They have the power of the purse, they want to investigate the President before appropriating money that will be used by him. Why isn’t that enough?
If the answer is, “oh the President will be distracted and sad” (a) that is nonsense, given the size of the modern Presidency and (b) these are subpoenas you private parties for heavens sake.
And yes I thought the same about Paula Jones.
