For the last several weeks I’ve been hearing from people locked up & their family, friends, & communities. In places like Miami, Houston, Michigan, & NY. Bearing witness. Sharing experience. Fear. Somehow hope. Tonight, you’ll get to hear from some. In an unexpected way. More:
In partnership w/ defenders, organizers, advocates, activists, & artists, people directly impacted by this cruel, unhealthy system we call “justice” started the process of documenting powerful witness statements. Audio. Video selfies. Letters. They’re taking a risk to be heard.
Working w/ local & national journalists to get these stories out. Soon launching a site called “Hear Us” to direct outrage into local demands & action calling on those in power to stop ignoring human suffering and do something to save lives. Tonight there is a special event.
Celebrated playwrights connected w/ people currently or formerly incarcerated & advocates. Last night, the playwrights wrote brand-new monologues based. Actors now preparing. TONIGHT at 6pm on IGTV the new monologues will be published, one every 15 minutes:24hourplays.com/viral-monologu…
Video of each monologue, along w/ original audio of the conversation, & photos, letters, art & other artifacts will be featured at NowHearUs.org. Critically, the performances will be paired w/ curated, direct actions advocates & those directly impacted want you to take.
