TensorFlow has crossed 100M total downloads from PyPI -- not counting downloads from our various auxiliary packages, tf-nightly, the old tf-gpu, the old Keras, etc.

Here's what the full trajectory looks like over the past year.
Because most of this is likely from CI systems, it correlates mostly with industry / production usage. What about adoption the research world?

Here are two metrics we can look at:

1) Mentions in new articles indexed on Google Scholar per week
2) Number of Colab notebooks that import TF/Keras. Colab is primarily used by grad students (which is who we mean in practice when we say "deep learning researchers"), not industry folks. And it's the platform of choice for official tutorials for both PT and TF.

Ratio is ~2.5x
So if you were under the impression that Facebook's PyTorch has been fading -- it's not! It's actually still adding users. What happening, however, is that it's growing at a slower pace than TF, and so its market share is decreasing. Hence why you may be under that impression.
