A few people have asked me how it can be a reasonable excuse to visit estate agents when estate agents haven't been authorised to open.

As far as I can tell from the Regulations (which aren't easy to follow) estate agents were never forced to close. Here's why. I think... /1
Basically, it's all about Schedule 2 legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/350/…

Part 1 - Business which must close any part selling food and drink for consumption on premises
Part 2 - Businesses which must close
Part 3 - Businesses which are permitted to open BUT...
Business not listed in Part 3 must only close if they are "offering goods for sale or for hire in a shop, or providing library services"

Since estate agents aren't offering goods for sale or hire or library services, & not listed in Part 2, they have always been able to open? 🤯
I am scratching my head over these regulations despite having been immersed in them for weeks so please tell me if I'm wrong...

Oh my goodness - of the 44 charges under the Coronavirus Act reviewed by the Crown Prosecution Service all 44 were "incorrectly charged because there was no evidence they covered potentially infectious people, which is what this law is intended for"

Not clear how the 44 charges were chosen - are those the only 44 charges or those which caused concern so were prioritised? The latter would be bad but perhaps less worrying if these are part of a larger group of charges /2

Interesting that 38/44 were charged with other offences
I'm not sure how reassuring it is that the charges under the health protection regulations reviewed so far are mostly correctly charged - these are vague regulations. Also, there have been many thousands of fixed penalty notices given which presumably haven't been reviewed /3

The Conservative Party has released its terms of reference for an indpendent investigation into complaints of Islamophobia - to be chaired by Professor Swaran Singh conservatives.com/investigation
Interesting that it opens by saying the equality and human rights commission has raised the issue, which suggests this may be part of an enforcement agreement with the EHRC
The EHRC has power to enter into agreements that an organisation Do certain things, including its own independent investigation (one would assume), if it is concerned there have been unlawful acts legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2006/3/s…

The amendments to Regulation 6 - reasonable excuses for leaving the place you are living

- You can now go out for exercise with one other person not from your household. No legal requirement to socially distance (though everyone should follow the govt guidance and do this)
You can go out to "visit a public open space" (whatever that means - park? Road? Square?) alone, with a member of your household, or someone from another household

"for the purposes of open-air recreation to promote their physical or mental health or emotional wellbeing"
