As the Supreme Court considers whether presidential electors can be bound to the popular vote in their state, it's a chance to reup my interviews w/ electors in 2016.

It's hard to remember but more electors — 7 — broke from their state's popular vote in 2016, the most in history.

That means around 5 million people were, effectively, disenfranchised, even if it didn't have an effect on the outcome. politico.com/story/2016/12/…
It was also one of the earliest examples of the way the Trump election/presidency has brought attention to some of the creaky/untested aspects of democracy that have long been taken for granted.

And as questions emerged about Russia's influence in the 2016 election, Clinton allies supported providing electors with intelligence briefings before they finalized the election. politico.com/story/2016/12/…
SIDE NOTE: One of the most fascinating moments was when a Trump attorney cited Kanye, the Iranian Constitution and the near-uprising of 1876 in a court filing to restrict elector freedom.
