How long has it been since you've really asked your Lord for something? Not just the last perfunctory Salah you checked off the list—how long has it been since you’ve *really* talked to your Lord?
Since you’ve asked Him from the bottom of your heart for your health, wealth, happiness, for the safety and security of your family, and friends, and all those you’ve loved?
Since you’ve raised your hands to the heavens to ask for the success of your kids, and the health of your parents?
Since you’ve really talked to Him about your hopes and fears, about the quiet thoughts that keep you up at night, no matter how large or small they may seem - about the exam you’re not sure you’re going to pass, or the job you’re dying to get?
What about the Hereafter? Have you raised your hands to the sky to ask for houses in Paradise next to the friends you spend your days with?
Have you asked for the forgiveness of yourself, your family, and your friends, and for the guidance of the people you love and respect who haven’t yet found this Deen?
Have you asked to be raised in the company of the men and women who you’ve read about in the history books—the icons and trailblazers who are integral to who we are—the Prophets and their companions?
Have you asked to have the honor of spending an eternity with your spouse exploring and enjoying the gardens and rivers of Paradise, which are unlike anything you’ve ever seen?
Take a moment. Write down all the things you’ve read about the next life that make your heart tremble with fear and excitement. Prepare your lists for these last ten nights of Ramadan and ask for every thought has crossed your heart.
These are the nights to raise your hands to the heavens and ask the One who Loves to be Asked for all of the things you want and more. Let’s take advantage of them.
