Imam Ghazali shares some reflections about the idea of a “muhaymin.” First, he mentions that a muhaymin must have complete knowledge and insight, and must be aware of what is happening at all times. We wouldn’t trust someone as a guard if he wasn’t aware of our reality.
Second, he mentions that a muhaymin must have authority and power. If someone who is watching over us has complete awareness but no actual power, then why would we care for this individual to watch over us? We wouldn’t feel confident in this individual’s ability to guard us.
Lastly, Imam Ghazali mentions that a muhaymin must have sincere love and concern for the one he’s watching over. A guard could have complete knowledge and total power, but if he doesn’t pay attention or care about what is happening, then he’s not a true muhaymin.
When we reflect on Allah (SWT) as “Al Muhaymin,” we know that He has complete knowledge of everything that is happening, and already happened, and will ever happen.
We’ve looked at how Allah (SWT) has complete ownership and control, He is Al Malik and Maalikul Mulk. We have confidence in His ability.
One of the Names and Attributes of Allah (SWT) that we will look at inshaAllah, is “Al Wadud.” He loves us and cares about us more than we can understand - there’s no one who loves us more. Allah (SWT) is The True Muhaymin in our lives.
The scholars also share some reflections on how to realize this Name of Allah (SWT) within our lives. They remind us to reflect, and think about how Allah (SWT) takes care of us every day.
They encourage us to look within ourselves and consider our behavior. Allah (SWT) does so much for us - how do we behave towards Him?
Lastly, the Qur’an is described as “Muhaymin.” What makes the Qur’an so remarkable? Our scholars and teachers recommend learning about the Qur’an - this inspires confidence.
They recommend reading the Qur’an, reading a translation, and even trying to learn the Arabic language so that we can appreciate the beauty of the Qur’an.
InshaAllah if we can work on our relationship with the Book of Allah, we can start to see its powerful impact in our lives. #NamesOfAllah
