1/ More than 20K New Yorkers have died from coronavirus.

Less than 5% of these deaths have been publicly memorialized.

We’re hoping to change that with this project that will help us remember every COVID related death in NYC—but we need your help.

2/ The publicized deaths—defined as accompanied by a victim’s name & other identifying info, such as age, home borough and next of kin—skew male & younger. They also disproportionately come from wealthier enclaves of the city than the general population felled by the virus.
3/ This means that the deaths of the groups hardest hit by coronavirus—including black and Hispanic residents and recent immigrants living in poorer and more densely populated areas in The Bronx and Queens—often go unnoticed by anyone other than their communities.
4/ Our goal is to put as many names, faces and stories to the numbers as possible. To do this we’re asking for some help in reaching people and gathering these stories.

5/ We know it's a hard time, but if someone you know—a relative, a friend, coworker, neighbor, client, etc.—died in NYC from the virus, tell us about them by filling out this short form. We know this form doesn’t do a full life justice, but it’s a start: buff.ly/2WTKNEl
6/ This project is striving to give a sense of the unimaginable loss our city is experiencing—while sharing both the burden of grief and the comfort of memories as we forge ahead together, as New Yorkers.

7/ Please spread the word, delicately, to anyone you know who has lost someone to the coronavirus, so we can remember them, celebrate them, and share the stories of those who were taken from us too soon.

Thank you.
