2./ I first saw Linda speak when she was leader of Lambeth Council. To a young gay man she was electrifying. Confident, smart and funny (and looking amazing!) she held the audience spell bound and I dared to believe the world could change. It did and no little thanks to her.
3./ In those days the word lesbian was itself a challenge, a statement. It still is which is why the misogynists who’ve taken over the LGBT movement use it so infrequently. Here’s Linda on the liberating power of the word. 👇
3./ In any sensible world Linda would be a Baroness not a bloody OBE (she’s brilliant in the interview on why she reluctantly accepted her gong). Lady Bellos has a ring about it doesn’t it? Who knew then that there would be such stupid battles for her to fight today?
4./ As @BluskyeAllison says it’s a matter of time before some dumb white bloke self identifies as a black lesbian and expects extra kudos for making “such an effort”. Truth is he’ll never be fit to wipe the classy butch boots of the icon that is Linda Bellos.
