I haven’t had my coffee yet so this is going to be unfiltered.

The Mail was one of the cheerleaders for the Thatcher government and their systematic maiming of teachers’ reputations and the education system in general. That had a direct effect on my life, as the son of a teacher

My father’s health suffered, very badly, for a long time as a result of those policies. Somewhere in the region of a third of the teachers in the area ended up taking early retirement. He was one of them. That probably saved his life.

I didn’t get a late stage adolescence. I got to help my parents keep things together, which meant I was the kid who got the good grades, who behaved, who was nice. They had so much to worry about, I figured it was my job to make sure they didn’t have to worry about me.

Given that I lost my closest friend aged 17, being the kid who was FINE, was horrifically difficult. I did it anyway.

I say all this because the Mail is, and I mean this very sincerely, an offshoot of a profoundly fucking evil part of the national character. It cheered on Thatcher’s sociopathic war on everyone who wasn’t her and it’s cheering on Johnson’s sub-Churchillian bullshit.

And it’s doing so by spelling the word ‘sacrifice’ like the word ‘heroes’.

This pandemic is still ongoing. It won’t go away because the braying classes are bored of it. It’ll just kill the people they send out for coffee, or to teach their kids, or the people who nurse them.

Still they may not have adequate PPE but maybe if enough teachers die Matt Hancock will make them a fucking badge, right?

This isn’t a war. This is a global medical crisis that will only be solved by patience, hard work and care. None of which this government nor its screeching mouthpieces seem remotely interested in.

You don’t put out a fire by throwing more wood at it. Let teachers work out the best way to do their jobs. Despite the government. Again.
