The nation prepared for apocalyptic lockdown life. Panic in the form of bulk buying the bare essentials; loo roll, tinned goods and dry pasta. All of this plus a sizeable dose of British sense of humour to serve as the ultimate coping mechanism.

Official lockdown and people did their best to simply shift life outside of the home to inside the home. Discipline, timetables and schedules were the way to minimise the scale of change and stick to life as they used to know it.

Good intentions and discipline dissolved in favour of boredom and regressive behaviours. Indulgence in the form of alcohol (I’ll have what I want, when I want it) and the ‘essential’ non essentials crept into everyday life.

The lockdown update surfaced two big and conflicting emotions:
😃 hope and optimism at the prospect of being reconnected with loved ones
😬undercut by fear for the long-term reality that might bite

Lockdown extended, stay home is now stay alert - confusingly just in England. A harsh thud back to reality, anger and disunity. Each experience is individualised and suddenly even greater schisms are created across the four nations.

Faith in leaders dwindles makes for a scarier world and uncertain future. Days grind. People yearn for fun. Uplifting entertainment required: to laugh, to join in and to have different conversations. Break the monotony. Innovation brings rewards.
