Keeping on the subject of supporting Irish businesses, dinner tonight was from @FadeStSocial ‘s new At Home menu. So many restaurants are thinking laterally about creating a “dine out” experience at home, and I’m not surprised @McGrathDylan has done it so well here...
Dishes are 90% prepared in the restaurant but finished at home. I can tell you it works (and if you hide the boxes quickly enough, you could pretend you’d made it yourself 😜).
Comes like this:
Starter: pumpkin hummus with creme fraiche, pesto and herbs. Image
Main: slow cooked pork belly with spring veg and Boulanger potatoes. (And small child shouting “disgusting” 😂😂)
I’m too full for dessert so put it in the fridge til tomorrow. 3 course set menu is €30 for 2 people (individual courses available) which is incredible value. Check them out at @FadeStSocial and pretend you’re a chef for the night. 😜 #supportlocal

A thread: Getting a lot of messages about censorship of certain social media accounts and websites, how “dangerous” this is for freedom of speech & how we all need to make up our own minds. Sigh. When I was a kid (pre-internet), my parents bought us a set of encyclopedia books
It was a big deal to have them, they were expensive, paid for month by month, but meant we didn’t have to trot off to the library every time we needed information on something. Our friends would come over to use them too, you’d get a call from someone who had to do a project on
Egypt (usually by tomorrow) & they’d pop over to plagiarise the section on Pharaohs and pyramids and we’d crack out the biscuit tin. I remember the scandal when Britannica had to admit to an occasional typo or date error in any of their books – they were so well fact-checked that

You know you’re getting old when you look through the Zara website and instead of coveting the clothes, you want to buy the models a sandwich. Jaysus but they’re very thin*.

Just put on Babe for Tom and I... 5 mins in and I’d forgotten how devastating it is. 😢 Image
It is also absolutely brilliant. Vegetarianism, here we come!
And with that, a good night. 😍

Late to the party here, but how is everyone my age (and their kids) not talking about @CobraKaiSeries ? (Or maybe they are but I don’t have enough friends). It’s fabulous!! 🐍
Also @WilliamZabka and @ralphmacchio both look like someone in make up has just aged them up slightly. The premise wouldn’t have worked for many other 80’s stars.
As an aside, like 75% of my generation, I took up karate after seeing the movie. I’ve always been a bit of a lightweight. First lesson and I asked could I go to the loo midway. Sensei said “Sure! Take your time!” I thought that was nice til I realised it was sarcasm. When I...

I said I'd try and show you all a few pages from my Dad Tom's postcard book, collated by his very proud Mum back in New Ross. A time pre affordable air travel, when no one really went abroad, and here he was travelling to such far-flung places at Beirut and Lagos...
My darling grandmother had a very hard life, and she was so proud of him, as we are now. Now, the back of the postcards are a different story, let's just say they're very concise! 🤣 So here we go:
1968, East Africa and S.A. Image
