A thread: Getting a lot of messages about censorship of certain social media accounts and websites, how “dangerous” this is for freedom of speech & how we all need to make up our own minds. Sigh. When I was a kid (pre-internet), my parents bought us a set of encyclopedia books It was a big deal to have them, they were expensive, paid for month by month, but meant we didn’t have to trot off to the library every time we needed information on something. Our friends would come over to use them too, you’d get a call from someone who had to do a project on

You know you’re getting old when you look through the Zara website and instead of coveting the clothes, you want to buy the models a sandwich. Jaysus but they’re very thin*.
*I’M NOT BODY SHAMING ANYONE SO DON’T @ ME!!! I mean, I’m not even sure which way this girl is facing? Image

Just put on Babe for Tom and I... 5 mins in and I’d forgotten how devastating it is. 😢 Image It is also absolutely brilliant. Vegetarianism, here we come!

Late to the party here, but how is everyone my age (and their kids) not talking about @CobraKaiSeries ? (Or maybe they are but I don’t have enough friends). It’s fabulous!! 🐍 Also @WilliamZabka and @ralphmacchio both look like someone in make up has just aged them up slightly. The premise wouldn’t have worked for many other 80’s stars.

I said I'd try and show you all a few pages from my Dad Tom's postcard book, collated by his very proud Mum back in New Ross. A time pre affordable air travel, when no one really went abroad, and here he was travelling to such far-flung places at Beirut and Lagos... My darling grandmother had a very hard life, and she was so proud of him, as we are now. Now, the back of the postcards are a different story, let's just say they're very concise! 🤣 So here we go:

Picking plums with Grandad! ❤️ Image Haha!! For those eagle-eyed sleuths who think they’re nicking plums from a neighbour... it’s growing in our garden! 😂 Planted by my grandmother well over 20 years ago. 👍🏻

These three boxes contain the memories I chose to keep when my parents sold their house 7 years ago. Going through them to see if I can let anything go.... #wishmeluck Image First boyfriend’s school jumper. Jaysus! Image

My Dad worked in Beirut in the 60s. Look how beautiful it was before the civil war, can't believe they have yet more horror heaped on them. 💔 Image Image

I’ve just read about this ad being banned (via @ruthscott ) and hand on heart, I’m lost for words. What f*cking year is it?!? I started a thread on periods the other day, and one of the things that keeps coming up is tampons causing discomfort... Inserting them far enough is a basic piece of information all tampon users need to know, and this ad did nothing other than point that out in a light hearted way. FFS this shit never ends. 😩

After donning it one more time to raise a smile (and cash for the @IrishCancerSoc ) during lockdown, I have realised there’s no point in keeping my insanely beautiful Jenny Packham wedding dress in a bag for ever. It’s lovely to look at, but I’m never going to wear it again.... ... and fear one day I’ll take it down to find a moth hole in it! So I’m going to give it to the @OxfamIreland bridal shop and hope that someone else gets as much joy out of wearing something so special. Welling up even thinking about it! Love this dress so much.

Wary of wading into this, but before we go cancelling every comedy show pre 2017, we need to discuss intent. I fully understand why anything resembling blackface is always problematic, end of. But, for example, a character like Father Ted or Partridge using an offensive term (be ...it racist, sexist or other) is showing the ignorance of the character. We're laughing at them, not with them. Think of the bile Finchy in The Office came out with - he was a complete pig, but represented someone many of us had come across (I certainly did!). I think it's an...

Finally had a chance to watch the Tony Slattery documentary last night. Found it heartbreaking, was going to tweet after it but needed to sleep on it. I saw Tony twice live in my teens, peers were going to music gigs but comedy was always my thing. He was magnetic... ...completely mesmerising, so handsome and hilarious. He is clearly still all those things, but it’s terrible to think that alcohol is at the root of so many of his issues. I just wanted to hug him throughout that entire doc. I hope he knows how much he is loved...

A convicted paedophile, rapist, drug dealer and burglar can't be named EVER under German law? Is that right?? Yet we splash an old man's name in the paper for an allegation. :(

Honestly, racism isn't getting worse in the US, it's just that the world is seeing more of it because of phones and social media. To think that some of the recent horrific cases would no doubt have disappeared into the ether and been nothing but a "his/her word against theirs" ...the way hundreds of others have because "no one else saw" is soul destroying. It's rotten to the core, and make no mistake, it's endorsed from the very top. There needs to be consequences and ZERO tolerance.

Keeping on the subject of supporting Irish businesses, dinner tonight was from @FadeStSocial ‘s new At Home menu. So many restaurants are thinking laterally about creating a “dine out” experience at home, and I’m not surprised @McGrathDylan has done it so well here... Dishes are 90% prepared in the restaurant but finished at home. I can tell you it works (and if you hide the boxes quickly enough, you could pretend you’d made it yourself 😜).

This is an ad for a dress on Zara's website. Perfect for staring over a tennis net at a couple of disregarded shites. (I'm hoping they're dog, and not some sort of protest by her unseen opponent). Image Maybe @ZARA can tell us what they are?!? Is this lovely girl staring at a dirty protest from a sore loser? Or maybe just someone caught short? We need to know!!
