Because @ExPatExLawyer and many other people who bought MAGA hats but burned their Nikes seem to struggle with math, allow me to explain how numbers work.

Let's say you're in a room with 99 other people - 13 black, 59 other white, 18 Latinx, etc.

A cop bursts into the room...
The cop opens fire until his gun (which held 16 bullets) is empty. Here's who ended up dead:

5 blacks
6 whites
3 Latinx
2 Others

You're right. The cop killed more whites but the black people in the room were 3x more likely to be shot.

That was unarmed police killings in 2017
A year later, you're in a room with 100 more people, same demographics.

This time 10 cops burst in. Each has 1 bullet. They open fire

3 black people, 2 LatinX and 5 whites die, meaning black people were 3x more likely to be killed AGAIN

Like 2018's unarmed victims
A year later, you're in a room. Same demographics. (I don't know WHY you keep going into this room, Laura)

This time 100 cops burst in. They open fire. Some miss. Some hit but just wound. In the end, here's who dies:

3 blacks, 4 whites, 2 Hispanics.

That was 2019
You've escaped every police killing so far. But this year, you go into a room with 99 people (Goddamnit, stay home, Karen!) A cop enters the room. But you notice something different about this cop.

He's blind!
You have no idea how many he's gonna kill, how many bullets he has or if he's even the killer cop you see every year.

Before he pulls out his gun, the blind cop asks you a question.

"What's your race?"
Now, if this cop starts killing, you know he's gonna kill MORE white people.
You don't know if these police killing statistics end up eerily similar every year because it is planned, or it's just a coincidence. You don't know WHY this keeps happening.

You DO know 3 things:
1. It has nothing to do with crime statistics:

Numerous studies have shown that police use of force has no correlation to crime.
2. White people kill more police

Every year, MOST cops killed in the line of duty are killed by white people.
But this year, you get to choose.

And because he's blind, there's no way he will ever know if you're lying.

So....would you rather be 1 of 60 whites in the room or 1 of the 13 black people?

Your life depends on it.

He's waiting.

What do you tell him, Laura?
