Free Trade Agreements nearly always come with some kind of phase in period for implementation in any case, as previously suggested by @SamuelMarcLowe, which could be done within the FTA or by extension of transition period
Most of the debate on the UK-EU future relationship still doesn't recognise the difference between a Withdrawal Agreement, on a few issues, and an FTA setting out at great length rules for an entire trading relationship. Or the huge change to UK-EU trade to come even with an FTA.
Hence my own suggestion for the UK not to lock ourselves in long term trade relationships without considerably more thought and attention, by looking for a further temporary arrangement or framework providing us the time to do this. telegraph.co.uk/politics/2020/…
Whatever happens in UK-EU talks plenty of Whitehall time will be taken on Brexit in the coming weeks, distracting still more from the fight against coronavirus. The price of not taking the obvious decision on a few months extension in March.
