Our graph of daily new COVID-19 cases doesn't look like anyone else's.

Weird, weird, weird.

"Why aren't the UK's coronavirus cases declining like they are elsewhere in the world?" This should be the top question at the evening press conferences. It won't be, but it should.
But do you know who we look almost exactly like?

The US, which had an insufficient testing regime, came to lockdown late, made a gigantic mess of locking down, and has still not fully locked down across the entire country.

Another commonality: huge death tolls.
UK's number of daily tests shot up (compared to a few weeks ago) but the number of positive results didn't changed. You'd expect a spike in the latter from all the extra tests.

You can see it clearly on the second graph, plotted based on government data.

Weird. Weird. Weird.
The other missing ingredient: hospital admissions.

719 people were admitted to hospital with COVID-19 in England on 15 May alone.

That's not the sort of figure you'd expect to see in a country whose epidemic fire has supposedly been dampened down to smouldering embers.
Meanwhile, the UK's 7-day average for deaths is still running at about 400/day. That too doesn't look anything like a country with its epidemic under control.

(Underlying data taken from the 17 May press conference dataset. See link.)
