In 2009 @MeghanMcCain, a poll was released asking are you optimistic about the future of America for your children. A majority of EVERY racial group said yes, EXCEPT white Americans. In 2016, a poll was asked if you are optimistic about the future of America economically for 4/9
the next 10 years? Well @MeghanMcCain, EVERY racial group except white Americans were in the majority. Again, ask WHY. So when you speak of this "culture war," you need to define what that even is. Just tossing out the phrase means nothing. I will argue Meghan that whiteness 5/9
and this fear of losing their majority is at the root of this so-called culture war. There are those who are largely conservative who believe that we are losing America's values, morals and customs, which @MeghanMcCain, have been defined through a white Christian prism 6/9
So what we are really facing @MeghanMcCain is an American that can be defined as Before 2043 and After 2043. This white fear is driving our politics. Why is the @GOP and white conservative evangelicals so hell bent on controlling the federal bench for the next 50 years? 2043 7/9
Why is Stephen Miller and the @GOP so hell bent on attacking undocumented workers and limiting even legal immigration? Easy: 2043. One party is a hell of lot more diverse than the other. That informs priorities @MeghanMcCain. So @BarackObama didn't usher this in. 8/9
What I would suggest @MeghanMcCain is that instead of a superficial discussion that evolves into catty sniping, that @TheView go deeper and get to THE WHY of what is happening today, and look at it from what 2043 means in all of this. That's far more edifying and meaningful. 9/9
And as I reflect more on tidy segment today on @TheView, I would have really liked to have seen @MeghanMcCain @sunny @JoyVBehar go deeper on the point @WhoopiGoldberg made about @BarackObama being Black. 10/
See, the problem that I’ve seen is folks act like the mere election of @BarackObama means that his Blackness isn’t apart of this discussion, but it is. So when @MeghanMcCain says “culture war,” that has to be unpacked and fully explained. 11/
