This isn’t accurate and reporters shouldn’t be saying things like this. The FDA has said it hasn’t yet been shown to be effective for COVID-19, not that there is no evidence for it. There are multiple ongoing trials and it is being used by doctors in various countries.
There have been very mixed results thus far and no one should be taking a drug like that without a doctor prescribing it. Trump isn’t a doctor and is not in a position to advise others to take the drug, but neither are reporters dismissing possible benefits. Leave it to doctors.
We don’t want people taking the drug without medical advice because they saw Trump say it’s good, but we also don’t want people rejecting the treatment because the press convinced them it’s dangerous and has no benefits.
Like I said, the press trying to portray HCQ as dangerous and ineffective just to prove Trump wrong is just as irresponsible as Trump portraying it as a cure.
