Inbox: Who is the non-Internet expert in X?

Me: That’s an interesting question but are you zooming in on visibility, form factor, or tools? Some folks are more or less known publicly, and publicly means the Internet in 2020. Some work internally not externally.
But with regards to tool selection, you can choose to not use the Internet just like you can choose to not write. That is a not a majority preference and it is in many ways a career-limiting preference, particularly as more and more of value chain moves to connected systems.
The flip side of this, by the way, is that there is an increasing likelihood that “known on the Internet for being an expert in X” for professionally relevant Xes is less likely to mean “has weird hobbies and too much free time” and more likely to mean “an expert in X” over time.
