They call people protesting for the right to live or vote "grievance politics," meanwhile it feels like they only just yesterday got over a comedian talking about a perfect smokey eye.
Trump's in a cage of his own making. Not because he is a fat man, which is no moral failing, but because he despises fatness, which is a moral failing. Thus a simple statement of fact—he is morbidly obese—presents him with a truth he can't accept.
He's built his identity around lies—he is smart, he is tough, he is fit, he has "great genes"—which makes him (and followers of his who have built their identities around him) psychologically fragile to the truth.

Trump has been an extremely up-front white nationalist for his entire political career, a point upon which most people seem very interested in remaining confused no matter how clearly he says it, but the Henry Ford comments certainly serve as the most recent reminder.
When I say he's been a white nationalist, I mean that he's said exactly the things white nationalists say, out loud, in public, repeatedly, and he's pursued their policy objectives, and he's hired them as senior advisors, and used their slogans, and they endorse him and love him.
When I say he's a white nationalist, I mean that he has been very deliberately and consistently and vigorously pursuing a white ethnostate, and targeting already-marginalized religious and ethnic minorities for harassment and terror and harm and death.

So, it's important whenever he says something like this to pause and recognize that the president is a profoundly stupid man.

I do think it’s important not to underestimate Trump, but that doesn’t have anything to do with his being smart. It has to do with him being cruel and shameless and white and rich in a society that has clearly been optimized to benefit white rich cruel shamelessness.

The attacks on voting and elections are going to get more and more intense as long as the polls keep looking unfavorable to Republicans.

We really need an awakening across this country about what we're facing, which is an anti-democracy, authoritarian, supremacist party.
Their clear premise is 1) some people matter; 2) others don't, 3) those that don't should be made useful to those that do; 4) if they can't be made useful, they are disposable.

The premise that people who don't matter should have a share in our decision-making offends them.
Republicans use elections only to the point elections entrench their power; past that point, they attack and demolish:

Ease of voting
Access to polling places
Right to vote
The votes themselves
Even the election results

Popular elections offend their supremacy.
