Tragic & bizarre

Last Saturday, Santosh, a migrant worker in Mumbai, recieved a call telling him he'd made it to the train leaving from LTT station to Satna, MP

Overjoyed, he packed his bags & reached the station

But the train had been scheduled from CST, not LTT. He missed it
He wasn't alone. There were 18 others with him.
When I called the number that gave them misleading information, a volunteer from an NGO in MP picked up. He said they're working with MP state govt. They ensure workers get on the train, based on the info they get from MP govt
This begs three questions:
1. Why is the MP govt informing workers about the train, when it is the responsibility of the local police station?
2. How did they get incorrect information?
3. Why hadn't the local police station informed these 19 workers?
The officers at local police station of Wadala said the migrant workers register at police station and then leave when they get a place on the truck. It makes it difficult to track who among those registered are still around.
The police further said they make groups of migrant workers & one among them is a group leader. Police tells the group leader about the train schedule, who tells the workers in his group. In this case, a policeman said the group leader might have gone and left the workers behind
"The workers should also confirm what they hear with the police," the senior PI told me.

But the answer to the first 2 questions remain a mystery. The officials in MP govt are unresponsive. Santosh, 18 others supposed to be on the train continue to be in Mumbai.

In September 2023, Hindu right assaulted Muslims in a Satara village

Six months later, it is a divided house

Some still living in exile, those who dined together now exchange cold glances, even school kids have been polarised

I report for @PARInetwork
ruralindiaonline.org/en/articles/in…
Nurul Hasan was a huge @imVkohli fan. His wife Ayesha admired Babar Azam.

The couple booked their tickets to the Ind-Pak world cup match in October 2023.

But a month before the match, Hindu far right groups assaulted the Muslims in the village, and lynched Nurul to death
The trigger for the tension were three screenshots that had gone viral.

In all three screenshots, young Muslim men are seen abusing Hindu gods.

The Muslims in question say the screenshots are morphed.

They're scared to return to the village fearing retribution.

In a Facebook post, Maharashtra's Additional Chief Secretary recalls celebrating the demolition of Babri Masjid with her batchmates

One must thank Manisha Mhaiskar, even if her post makes your skin crawl

She has exposed the bureaucracy better than any one could have. 1/N
She writes: "Life comes a full circle and How!!! 6th December 1992 was a very cold day in Mussoorie.

1992 Batch of IAS were at their Foundation Course. News was slowly trickling in of the seminal developments at the Ram Janmabhoomi at Ayodhya....
...A very spontaneous meeting had got organised but very discreetly, by invitation only.

My staunch Nagpur roots were considered good enough for an invitation. At the meeting venue some probationers were chanting 'Jai Shri Ram'....

In 2012, a Sanatan Sanstha member opened his laptop at a village temple in Aurangabad

He played videos of cow slaughter and love jihad to a crowd of 40

Among them was a 19-year old college dropout.

18 months later, he allegedly shot Narendra Dabholkar

In this deep dive for WIRED, I look at how right wing groups have brainwashed the masses.

India's next election will be partly decided online.

But even before the internet reached the country's rural regions, divisive videos were distributed using hard drives & laptops.
Propaganda and misinformation were a major part of Sanatan Sanstha’s operation, which I have focused on in this piece.

It details how a 19-year old college dropout cultivating his father's farmland was trained to allegedly kill Dabholkar.

BJP leader behind communal violence in Satara?

A Muslim severely injured -- and still recovering -- in the Hindutva attack on Pusesavali village in Satara has told police a very important detail.

#Thread
Just a few days before the Hindutva mob attacked Muslims in Pusesavali, BJP leader Vikram Pawaskar had held a meeting at the residence of one of the accused, according to the statement.
Over one hundred unknown people were part of the Hindutva mob that attacked Pusesavali, terrorizing Muslims.

But 27 of them were from the village. And some of them were present at the meeting Pawaskar held, claims the statement.

In Satara, a Hindu man hacked into a minor Muslim's Instagram and uploaded an abusive post about Shivaji.

Reminds me of something Sanatan Sanstha had done back in 2006.

In June 2006, a Muslim resident of Kolhapur had become a militant in Kashmir, and was killed in an encounter by the security forces.

His name was Irfan Attar.
Sanatan Sanstha held a meeting shortly after that and clandestinely decided to print out pamphlets that read: “long live Irfan Attar”.

The members later went on to slyly plant these pamphlets at a temple in Kolhapur, which led to a riot-like situation.
