Cuomo and Murphy run the two states with the highest death tolls (29K in NY, 11K in NJ). Neither protected nursing homes.
Data aren't fully available in NY because they don't classify people who die in hospitals as "from nursing homes" even if they came from nursing homes. In NJ, 1 out of every 13 people in nursing homes is dead of covid-19.
Cuomo's approval rating is apparently in the 80s. Murphy's is in the high 70s. The power of the media to cheerlead godawful leadership so long as those leaders are Democrats remains astonishing.
Kemp and DeSantis aren't and weren't the problem. Believe it or not, media, Trump wasn't the fundamental problem. NY has a slightly smaller population than FL and 14x the deaths. NJ has the same population size as VA and MI -- 10x the deaths of VA, 2x the deaths of MI.
