THREAD/ Couple thoughts on these well taken points. First sentence below glosses over important tensions. Opening overseas markets/liberalizing trade on one hand & preserving peace / national security on the other are related but distinct goals
And my claim has been that in important respects, Bretton Woods, GATT placed the first in service to the second. Trade was meant to serve the end goals of national economic strength & domestic stability among member states
This is why GATT left such large areas of economy & industry untouched, and allowed nations such wide latitude in domestic regulation. It was never trade liberalizing or integration just for the sake of integration
Uruguay Round marks significant departure. Industries & sectors formerly outside GATT rules now brought in. And the largely advisory dispute resolution process of GATT replaced w/ binding WTO process, complete w/ appellate body able to rely on its own decisions as precedent
Global economic integration now amped up and pursued for its own sake. Nat security, domestic needs, & liberalizing agenda diverge. Consequences for USA not so good. This system facilitated the “China shock,” which has had major security implications as well as economic ones
Now we need to bring our domestic needs (centered on workers), our national security needs & our trade / economic agenda back together. Will require major reform

Today I got to sit down with @RobertKennedyJr - we had a substantive discussion about American healthcare & his plans to take on Big Pharma. We also had a good discussion, at length, about prolife policies at HHS
He committed to me to reinstate President Trump’s prolife policies at HHS. That includes reinstating the Mexico City policy & ending taxpayer funding for abortions domestically
He supports reinstating the bar on Title X funds going to organizations that promote abortion
I just had an extraordinary conversation with Director Rowe at the Secret Service, who called me personally to dispute a whistleblower allegation - but refuses to respond in writing. Just as he has declined to respond substantively to ANY of the whistleblowers’ allegations
Rowe complained about whistleblowers & complained about requests for information based on whistleblower reports. I informed him it is his JOB to provide the facts to the public & Congress. Stonewalling must stop. And I reminded him whistleblowers are *protected under federal law*
I emphasized to Rowe that it is indefensible that his agency has not cooperated fully with congressional investigators - to the point that today the Homeland Security Committee again adopted my legislation to COMPEL Secret Service & DHS to cooperate
As the Senate gathers information & prepares to hold hearings on the assassination attempt on President Trump, I traveled yesterday to Butler County myself. Because frankly, I don’t trust ANY of these agencies or government officials to give us the facts
Here I’m standing about where President Trump was on the day - and you can see the low-slung building where the shooter was positioned. I was struck by just how close it is - and with a completely clear line of sight. Why was that building not in the security zone?
It’s not a tall building. Single story. Roof is barely sloped. Lots of points of access to get on the roof. And clear line of sight to where the stage was
In June, a whistleblower came to me and @ChuckGrassley with docs exposing Biden’s plans for a Disinformation Board to suppress Americans’ speech. Now DHS has - under duress - turned over new emails that show more of what they’ve been hiding
Sec Mayorkas told me under oath that the Disinfo Board hadn’t met yet back in May. But DHS emails reveal their Disinfo “Steering Group” held weekly meetings starting as early as February. The Board was up and running
DHS's collusion with Big Tech went much deeper than we knew. The Board discussed an “analytic exchange” with Big Tech, and emails reveal plans for a meeting with the Facebook official who suppressed the @newyorkpost Hunter Biden story
Here’s the left wing radical the Senate is voting on today to run America’s nuclear policy - this is her accusing @GregAbbott_TX of trying to murder her sister with #covid19
