Counterpoint: No Steve, it did not.
Like what does "change the course of history" even mean? Yeah any time something happens it shuts down the possibility of it not happening, but the Black Death was not, in fact, a bread and roses moment.
Sure it highlighted societal inequalities which in turn inspired rebellions, but how did those turn out? Did you actually get any communal societies that treated peasants well? I will answer for you - no you did not.
The closest you come to a successful medieval communal revolution against the status quo is with my v good friends the Hussites but that doesn't kick off until 1419 - 73 years after the Black Death showed up. Also Bohemia didn't really get the Black Death very badly cuz we ball.
I so very very badly want this particular pandemic that we are living through to result in us confronting the massive societal inequalities that we are currently facing and to erase them. I have never wanted anything more. You cannot look to the Black Death for a guide on that.
TL/DR could basic non-historians stay in their lane and stop doing pop history, please? I, the twitter Black Death police, am very tired and cannot even go to the pub to unwind after reading your bullshit.
