Fun fact about what happened pre-modern medicine when women gave birth at home organically in a process 'unmediated by chemical or surgical help' - birth was very much associated with 'dread and pain' because WOMEN AND BABIES JUST DIED CONSTANTLY, JANE. In the modern era we are so divorced from the realities of childbirth because society is misogynist (obviously), women are *still* seen as birthing machines, first and foremost, and also we are pretty good at keeping women and babies alive now in clinical settings.

I know I should ignore the bad take machine, but ideas like this are so frustrating because they are so bourgeois. Jobs that entail manual labour should not be extended into old age. You can only have a take like this if you don't know working class people. Moreover, the idea that one's existence should revolve around work is also intrinsically capitalist. Work should not be the defining characteristic of your life! Your life should be about connection, improving the world, and yes, pleasure. People don't exist to make profit!

Well, well, well, if it isn't the incredibly new idea of women's sexuality that I cover extensively in my upcoming book one more time, and I have time to self promote, so let's talk about why Stephen Fry is wrong, cuz a girl has books to sell. The idea that women aren't interested in sex is *incredibly modern* in the European context for the majority of recorded human history it was considered that women were the sexualised sex. Whether you asked Aristotle or Aquinas they would tell you women were *horny* horny.

If you enforce monogamy on me I am still not going to date you. Image As a historian of gender, of course, it is also interesting to see people simply come out and admit this. Social monogamy as a cultural imperative is very much about controlling the bodies of women specifically as women can't be trusted to distribute sex in the 'right' way.

So yeah this is fascist ahistorical nonsense but I am on an airport so I have time to talk about why. First off let's acknowledge that it is a fasc technique to blame the issues of capitalism on feminism. The trouble isn't a failing system it is those pesky girls!!! First the idea that women working outside the home is new is laughable and extremely modern. Women have *always* worked. The idea that women are exclusively domestic was a very short lived middle class only idea which emerged in the enlightenment and peaked with Fordism.

I often talk about how the way history is taught is expressly political, and this is a perfect example. This person, who considers themself educated enough to opine on Eastern Europe, just blithely admitting that they have *no idea* why Ireland speaks English and what the UK is. This is a personal failing, obviously, but there is also an enormous gap in the UK about acknowledging, you know, all the violent oppression. It is imperative that people actually study history in order to engage with the world around us, and it is withheld for a reason.

He's only bloody done it. Being absolutely owned by all my family who are at the game in Sydney and stunting on me. What a player. What a sport. Also, nice. LMAO poor Geelong.

This week on the blog I wrote about ideas about women's sexual pleasure being directly linked to semen. I also, distressingly, realised that in my "for more on" section at the end of the blog, I can now say "for more on semen".
going-medieval.com/2022/03/24/on-… Yeah this article was inspired by Tommy two cums, but I have just been ill and also busy, so I only got to it now.

When your mate said they were gonna come pub but is now saying they are "really tired": (That's a joke, on going consent is important and if you don't let people change plans with you they won't make plans with you in the future.)

Getting the girls together to ponder the orb. Walked out of the Dürer exhibition right into an anti vax protest. Running through the crowd shielding my face with my bag like, "I AM NOT WITH THEM I AM JUST A NERD."

Finding out twitter won't let me buy ads (probably because my bio says "sex" in it.) Your girl simply cannot sell out! 😊

He said RIP to the millions who died in both World Wars, but I'm different. Military history is just gender history for dudes and no I will not expand.

Just continuing to think about the phenomenon of individuals who write for a living who have somehow convinced themselves that they are historians, and how that correlates to the phenomenon of "I do not know about this thing, and therefore no one knows about it." I know that this happens to all specialist academic professions, but there seems to be this thing that history in particular has wherein people convince themselves that a B+ in high school European History gives them a solid ground from which to pontificate.

I don't even know where to begin with this take. Whilst I oppose great man history individual choices of the powerful are a constant historical hinge. I mean, easily *most* major medieval European wars are based on individual choices. My god. There is, of course, the argument that a minority of individuals aren't all of history and I do subscribe to that. I am always an advocate of the small people, most of whom have no say in these things and are largely uninvolved.

I am so enraged. TFW you, a TERF, just ignore George's entire oeuvre, and also what his friends and family think, in order to justify your own prejudices. Cool cool cool.

I am going to listen to this and probably get angry. We don't talk enough about how George's "I'd service the community, but I already have you see" is a God tier punchline in Outside. Inspirational. Making every hip hop artist sweat.

Solidarity with @GoldsmithsUCU who are out on strike today trying to save 52(!) jobs from needless cuts. My comrades and I from @DawnLabourLeft will be down at the picket today in solidarity. If you can donate to the strike fund or show up to the picket it would be ace! Great list of stuff going on down there if you can make it!

If I had been taken in by a propaganda campaign developed by a bunch of white supremacists I would simply not pretend to be a leftist, but that is me. Anyway I'll stop posting it when people stop posting that ridiculous graph.

I know everyone else has said it already but £81k a year is an amount of money that I struggle to even understand. It is just such an incredible salary, but the people who hold the reigns of power as well as control cultural output are here to tell us it's nothing. It's insulting These same people have stripped money of the most vulnerable in our society and then cry poverty when they are told to make do on an income which puts them in the top 5% of earners in this country. You have to pick.

TFW you definitely know history so think brothels stopped existing cuz Christianity and also that "civilisation" got held back as a result of said Christianity and also can provide for citations for this.
If brothels = civilisation you should love the medieval period, actually. ImageImage Everything was so much more "civilised" under the brutal slave empire with the sacred chickens. Of course if I went back in time I would be a citizen! Defo not the 40% of the population who was enslaved. No I will not unpack why I equate slave empires with being civilised.
