What is the result of step reduction and what can be done about it?

@saraoikawa @DrTHolloway & @mackinprof examined this in:

frontiersin.org/articles/10.33…
I think this is quite topical as I have been surprised at the # of patients who have cut back on their (non-gym) physical activity over the past months.
FYI. Where I live we have not been under a true quarantine and have been allowed to walk outside during these recent months. Not everyone has a safe outdoor environment but nearly all do where I live as it is mostly rural. In the city, parks have not been closed to walking.
So what can happen with decreased physical activity?

Decreased insulin sensitivity. (I’m already seeing fasting glucose, insulin, lipids, and A1c rise)

Reduced muscle mass.

Reduced muscle strength. ImageImage
This may lead to a move from the “normal” to “punctuated” decline line. Image
What can be done?

Encourage those that we encounter to walk or resume other exercise (if safe).

Teach body weight exercises that can be done safely at home.

Encourage a proper diet and consider the conclusions below. Image
