The former DPP is gathering evidence. Letter to the Cabinet secretary from @Keir_Starmer
Actually letter is from @RachelReevesMP, but you can bet it will all form part of the Starmer case at PMQs next month. No.10 will be mightily relieved there's no PMQs this coming week, but who knows where we will be come June 3.
Note the clever formatting of the letter. Echoes No.10's own Claim/Response rebuttal used to attack @thesundaytimes

One key question the PM has yet to be asked:
If you and ministers approved/endorsed Cummings' trip to Durham, why not widely publicise AT THE TIME the exemption that you thought allowed him to travel? So that other parents could act similarly?
The answer may be this: we didn't do that because we feared it would undermine the much simpler Stay At Home message.
And by widely publicise, I mean widely publicise. Ie make clear and *explicit* what those exceptional circumstances were (does the child or parent have this or that medical condition) so that parents could act accordingly.

Extraordinary 'evidence' session right now with Osama Rahman, Chief Scientific Adviser and Director of Analysis, Department for Education, before the @CommonsSTC.
He doesn't know who many under-18s have died from Covid-19.
When asked by @halfon4harlowMP what underpinned DfE decision to reopen schools on June 1, he says "that was not a departmental decision, that was a Cabinet decision following advice from SAGE"
Asked by @zarahsultana what assessment he has made on how effectively the new govt guidance on schools can be implemented, the DfE's chief scientific adviser replied: "I haven't."

Wow. Chief statistician repeats prof Edmunds estimate that infection rate for Covid-19 has gone UP recently, partly cos of epidemic in care homes.
"I would not demur from that"
He just blew up this press conference, despite Raab saying 'overall' the R rate is down
"It's probably gone up just a little bit from these last estimates and that is driven by the epidemic in care homes, he [Edmunds] would say, and I would not demur from that. That is a real challenge to reduce the epidemic in care homes."
We are left with impression that govt wants to make it look like infection rate R is lower than ever on a new range (0.5) [to give PM cover for his Sunday/Monday good news] rather than looking at the recent uptick that means the range is still v close to 1 (0.9)
