Trump and his allies are very critical of Sessions for recusing. On the one hand, they forget that Sessions was also targeted by McCabe in a baseless investigation. On the other, Sessions could have resigned, but didn’t.
Resignation was fraught with its own problems as well. If Trump accepted a resignation it would have been seen as him forcing Sessions out.
Sessions offered to resign, but Trump supposedly rejected it.
