We know these facial recognition technologies are used for surveillance and the over policing of communities of colour, trans people, activists, etc. The algorithms are unethical. We know this. So much work has shown it time and again: @morganklauss @safiyanoble etc
We request an urgent explanation from @ACM_CEO and/or @TheOfficialACM about the thought process that went into this tweet & an explanation of how so much research that shows how unethical and dangerous this industry is (published in part at your own conferences!)is being ignored!
.@TheOfficialACM have written a follow-up tweet...not really providing amazing explanation and instead saying ‘that’s not what we meant’ so we want to ask: what did you mean with that tweet, then?
