Some young people feel that anyone who is 50 years & above was served full chicken & milk while at university and didn’t even leave chicken bones and kunu for them. Over 65s probably did but it finished before we got there. I just read a book that somewhat explains it. Thread...
In ‘The Power of Bad’ by Tierney and Baumeister, they described what is known as the ‘Record Store Effect’ to explain why people always think that things were perfect in “the good old days.” You see, if you go on Apple Music for today’s music, you may see both Wizkid and Vic O
However, if you want to buy oldies from the 80s and 90s, you are more likely to find the greatest hits of Osita Osadebe, Michael Jackson or Whitney Houston. If you are not careful, you would think that EVERYTHING that was produced in the 80s and 90s was brilliant.
You will not see the really bad music that was produced in those years. Even I cannot remember some of the things done with synthesizers and early computers then. Painful stuff. 😢 In 30-40 years’ time, aspects of today too will be referred to as “the good old days.”
It is an exercise in futility trying to explain to a young person that even those that are full chicken and drank milk while at university lacked certain things that are freely available now. Imagine not having a mobile phone. Imagine not being able to search things on Google.
In those years, if someone made a First Class in any discipline, in any university in the country, it was announced on NTA Network News. Now, the thing is like pure water. Covenant University alone produces over 200 First Class graduates EVERY SINGLE YEAR!
However, it is difficult to blame those that accuse the older generation of eating full chicken. Their argument is that “they enjoyed the best of Nigeria” & that Nigeria didn’t give them anything when it got to their turn. I feel their pain. Me ma, I didn’t meet the full chicken.
Citizens are right to feel that their country should look after them for the taxes that their parents paid and the taxes now being demanded of the . The country should look after them when they are unemployed or sick. That is what caring societies do. It is not beyond us. End.
