popularity could mobilize cross segments of Chinese civil society into public action. Get enough mainlainders, particularly Beijingers, sympathetic to a cause and it lowers room for manuever for the Party to deploy the full arsenal of tools for overt oppression. The key point is
what do Hong Kongers and Mainlanders share in common and where could that have been used to engage in collective action. That would have instantly drew the party eye. For example, the ridiculous real estate prices in Hong Kong, a problem shared with the mainland. Rent protests
especially targeted at the oligarchic classes that HK relies on support would have immediately drawn mainlander sympathy and support. The more noise they made in this sector, the more solidarity Beijingers would have felt, the more pressure on Beijing to finally put the boot on
HK property developers. It would have served as a nexus of further collaboration for collective action. The Party does not want Hong Kongers collaborating with mass movements in the mainland and would have immediately moved to appease lest disturbances spread. The Cuhkroaches
never even thought of such because as the faggot Liberals supporters are never willing to admit that the movement was never about rights but separatism. Instead of the 996 toxic work culture, another common problem facing China and Hong Kong, your precious organizers decided that
