If you're wondering how 53 Tory MPs managed to pile on in defence of Dominic Cummings in a short space of time over the weekend, it turns out there was a (too) vigorous whipping operation stirring them to act.

Of course that doesn't absolve them in full.

After all, MPs must at all times be responsible for what they decide to say. But at least we now know why all the tweets mushroomed around the same time.

Here's the original list of offenders, including Cabinet Ministers and the Attorney General...
The other point to bear in mind is that many of those 53 Tory MPs complained about the politicisation of the Cummings situation. But by acting at the behest of their whips, they engaged in a 100% political act of their own!
