Right now, the UK has the third highest daily COVID-19 death toll in the world per million population (7-day rolling average).

And yet we're told that "other countries have done it, so why shouldn't we?" when it comes to opening schools and lifting restrictions.

Wow! Without permission! Applies to track and trace *contacts* too. theguardian.com/world/2020/may…
In other words, if someone reports you as a t-and-t contact, the NHS will store all the juicy data it can find on you for 20 years.

I foresee people slamming the phone down on NHS track-and-trace call centre workers.
"Friends don't let friends get their data slurped by Big Brother government."

Track and trace won't be up to speed until a month after schools and businesses reopen.

That's like getting a car up to top speed in the outer lane of a motorway, driving for a while, and then deciding to finish mending the brakes.

1. BBC puts out unprecedented quick apology for yesterday's Newsnight.
2. Emily Maitlis signed off yesterday's programme saying "see you tomorrow"
3. EPGs and TV listings list EM as presenting tonight

Yet despite 1-3, we're supposed to believe that she wasn't due to present?!
I guess it's a case of tuning in tonight to see what, if anything, Pravda-on-Thames says about the whole affair.
Added: this has the smell of a hair being split with a laser scalpel. Maybe she wasn't ordered off, but the BBC's public dressing down on social media will have exposed her to every troll & botfarm in the Western Hemisphere, so perhaps she decided not to appear for her own good?
