On this Memorial day, I’d like to recognize my uncle and my cousin for their service, both SEALS, both great men.
Also to remember the America we used to live in, where our leader did his job.
Instead of let Veterans die in VA homes because of inaction and stupidity.
An America where racists were called out for the trash they are instead of being called “good people” by our leader. Where hanging a black man in effigy is history, not news. A country where people believe in science to save lives instead of putting yours in danger. Remember?
On this Memorial Day I remember an America we used to be. One of kindness and innovation, of truth, justice, equality and the rule of law. Where we didn’t cage people looking for a better life, or punish the people who stand up to corruption. We were inspired to be like them.
I miss that America, it was easier to live there, without the constant onslaught of evil and ignorance. Where a President would NEVER think about injecting disinfectant into other Americans. Let alone say it out loud ON TELEVISION. I miss that America. Remember it?
Memorial Day is to remember the fallen. Countrymen and women put in danger and who faced that danger with rare courage. Some gave all, heroes. Some dodged the draft 5 TIMES.
The America I remember a President lead, instead of golfed. He cried when Americans died. He hurt for US
In the America I remember the free press was lionized as essential to our freedom, heroes of democracy, not demonized as the enemy of the people. Where a leader mobilized troops to stop a deadly virus like Ebola. He did it hours after hearing about the outbreak. Not 72 days later
In the America I remember, leaders inspired, responded, soothed, had empathy, humility and united us. They said things like “The buck stops here” or “I always feel responsible” cnbc.com/video/2016/12/… instead of “I dont take responsibility at all”
In the America I remember, a President faced calamities and dangers to protect us. Whether in the rubble of buildings or in the halls of finance. Whether you agree with them or not, they were leaders, not losers, fixers, not failures, competent, not illiterate. Remember?
On this Memorial Day we have lost 100000 countrymen. 100000. One Hundred Thousand dead countrymen. One Hundred Thousand heartbroken families, who didn’t get to be with their loved ones when they passed. It didn’t have to happen. If we just had a real President.
Remember?
