Heartbroken.

It was simple wasn't it. Haim means life - so I thought I would take a historical trip and look at people named Haim who were killed by terrorists and Arab violence in Israel.

How many could there be?

I ended up going all the way back to 1902. When Haim Kurdi was attacked and murdered by Arabs as he returned to his village from Tiberias
So many. Like Haim Mevurach who went to Jaffa to visit his wife's family in 1921 only to be caught up in an anti-Jewish riot and murdered whilst he was there..
Or 1929. Haim Shalom Alter was 25 and he stood in the doorway to try to stop the Arab mob from entering the house. He died in the doorway and the Arabs murdered the rest of the inhabitants. This was the infamous Hebron massacre .
1936. Haim Kornfeld was a Zionist socialist who worked on Arab -Jewish integration. He refused to believe the Arabs posed a danger. Whilst at work on April 19, Arab rioters attacked and murdered him
1938 - Haim Leimer was just twelve years old. He was with his sister Rivka 10 and Ezra 8 in Tiberias, when Arabs attacked the city. There was a massacre. The kids were stabbed and burnt to death. A total of 19 Jews were killed, 11 of them children.
1939 Haim Donmitz was asleep in his bed. He was just 10 years old. He lived in Moshav Gibton, near Rehovot. His father and sister were away for a few days. Arab terrorists broke into the family home, shot his mother, cut the throats of his brothers and stabbed Haim to death.
December 6 1947. Just a week after the UN vote on partition. Local Arabs intensified their attacks on the Hatikvah neighbourhood in Tel Aviv. Haim Scandrion was just 9 years old. He was shot and died from his injuries. His mother was killed alongside him.
Chaim Furstenberg was just 9. He was on a bus that was attacked in 1954. His mother was raped and murdered. He called out when he thought the terrorists had gone - but they heard him and returned to shoot him in the head. It took him 32 years to die.
Far too many to list here - but they are all in the article.
Some stories almost to tragic to tell.

A historical journey. They are the truth of the conflict. And we must never, ever forget it.

Here they are . To Haim. To all of them. david-collier.com/haim/
