@djrothkopf 1. The problem is not your presidents, they are just a consequence of huge systemic issues. Let's focus on Reagan's "era of deregulation". The following items are interdependent and positively feedbacking:
- repeal of Glass Steagall
- the rise of Private Military Contractors...
@djrothkopf 2.
... as a consequence of the "lets outsource and privatize everything" mentality leading the unregulated "things" (corporations) to grow beyond the point of control
- which leads to more illegitimate wars involving the US
@djrothkopf 3. fter all, PMCs make money by "offering outsourced military service". Therefore, they create the demand.
- which feeds into the monstrous growth of private prisons, which feeds into systemic racism
- and with an already privatized health care system because the US *NEVER* ...
@djrothkopf 4... had a public health system, health care corporations start cartelizing like crazy and their capital makes their merger bigger than several countries
- but the American people are held hostage of their ignorance since they don't have a memory of anything different.
@djrothkopf 5.
- therefore, the "least bad" president is elected but has ZERO power over the systemic issues since they were elected only to make cosmetic improvements on it. Again: the American society has no memory of anything different
@djrothkopf 6. They don't even understand that the Cold War was 100% unnecessary, that during that period the US destroyed several democracies (my country, Brazil, being one of them) and pushed international relations into the disaster that it is today.
@djrothkopf 7. Because they are still fed nationalism disguised as "patrotism", both of which make it impossible to envision systemic changes.
@djrothkopf 8. Therefore, unless this country's society can envision systemic changes and stops the malignant discourse full of illusions of grandeur, there cannot be a "good" president because you lack parameters for that.
@djrothkopf 9. What you are observing is the often predicted and often celebrated fall of the American empire. I hope so. Because only from the ruins of a system that was built to commit suicide and kill the rest of the world with it we may be able to find the way to Civilization again.
@djrothkopf 10. As the American empire falls, we, friends of Civilization and democracy all around the world, not hostages to the illusions of the nation-state, may work with the people inside this territory to rescue the great things achieved by scientists, civil rights leaders,
@djrothkopf 11. minorities and educators here. The "American empire", "White America", must fall for that to happen. No president can do that.
