now that i’m thinking about it what JOHN CARTER needs is unhinged insanity of JUPITER ASCENDING
dial this movie up to that level of craziness (“bees are genetically designed to recognize royalty”) and i think you have something great on your hands

the thing about these interactions — which end with an arrest, not death — is they are still incredibly traumatic, still represent a gross abuse of authority, and are fairly common
The reason a single death at the hands of police can produce mass protests is because that death is set against a backdrop of thousands of abusive, oppressive interactions that fall short of lethal violence but nonetheless show the same disrespect for life & liberty.
And I should say that none of this is for *safety*. The neighborhoods where police act as an occupying army are the same neighborhoods where clearance rates for homicide and other violent crime are incredibly low.

watching BATMAN BEGINS for the first time in a good while. first thought: the first 20 minutes of this movie is very effective. Well-paced, well-edited, tells you a lot about the character and his world without boring you with too much exposition.
second thought: Ken Watanabe is completely wasted and it still makes me mad!
third thought: of all the times Martha Wayne has been killed on screen this is probably the least gross depiction.

the klobuchar thing is very clearly a strategic leak and i'm not sure it should be read as anything other than the (known) fact that she's under consideration
yep, very much a possibility.
Also possible that whoever put this out there knew the reaction would be negative.
