Or maybe we've all spent too much time cooped up in the Overlook Hotel.
Maybe in addition to the stress caused by job loss and restricted movement there's the anger of those who thought they had a deal with the world; that so long as they kept that bargain their lives would be under control. Suddenly the world reneges on the deal and there's fury.
I think that poor, fatalistic people were psychologically better prepared for the pandemic than those who lived their lives to micrometer tolerances and needed things 'just so'.
That's why people in these Karen stories crack in absurdly petty situations. Suddenly people skateboarding in a park, birdwatching, shopping in the supermarket or merely lounging on their front lawns can provoke disproportionate rage. Blind, rabid rage.
What puzzled me for so long was not the anger in the confrontations but the sheer pettiness of the provocation. It didn't add up.
